The Mosquito 'Cognito needs 2 AA batteries and refills of Conceal inhibitor, available for a nominal charge from the Mosquito Solutions on-line store.

How does the Mosquito 'Cognito work?
The Mosquito 'Cognito hides occupants of an area from mosquitoes. It acts upon the mosquitoes' ability to spot their prey by using their sense of smell.
Mosquitoes have poor eyesight but they can smell their prey from as far as 100 ft away. When they get closer, about 30 ft away, they are able to use their infrared eyesight and visually hone in on their prey. The 'Cognito protects you by preventing the mosquitoes from smelling you. It does not however protect you from mosquitoes that can visually find you (if they are within a 30 ft. circle). Once they are within 30 ft, mosquitoes are able to see you and do their final approach not by scent, but by sight. The 'Cognito is not as effective against nearby mosquitoes.
When should the Mosquito 'Cognito be used
The Mosquito 'Cognito is most effective when the immediate surrounding area is free of mosquitoes.
If you are on a deck, patio, pool area, boat or any other location at least 10 yards away from any major mosquito source, such as bushes, tall grass etc., the 'Cognito will afford maximum protection.
The scent emitted by the device overcomes the mosquitoes' sense of smell, somewhat like placing pepper in a dog's nose would preclude him from using his sense of smell to find his target. The Mosquito 'Cognito is very effective to protect a relatively small area such as patio or deck where no mosquitoes are breeding within 30 ft. It will protect you from mosquitoes that are further away, outside of the 10 yard circle.
On the other end, say you are in a shaded, humid area where mosquitoes roost:,the 'Cognito will afford little protection as mosquitoes do not use their sense of smell to find you. They can visually detect you. In this case you need to consider our other product, the Dragonfly Mosquito System.

What chemicals are used?
The Mosquito 'Cognito uses Conceal inhibitor to hide the presence of potential preys from mosquitoes. The Mosquito 'Cognito, as well as the Conceal it uses have received registration from the United States Government Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Conceal™ is an aromatic plant derivative used in the fragrance and flavor industry.

The unit generates a faint, very light and pleasant odor, similar to perfume from a flower. .

'Cognito help me?
You can use Mosquito 'Cognitos at different points of entry into the house, so mosquitoes do not detect presence of preys inside and do not attempt to enter your house.
Where should the unit be mounted?
Each unit is shipped with an owner's manual that gives detailed and easy to follow placement and mounting instructions.
The 'Cognito should be placed in the area you want to protect (i.e. patio, pool side, doors or windows leading into home).
Always place the Mosquito 'Cognito dispenser where people congregate. As a rule of thumb, use one Mosquito 'Cognito dispenser for gatherings of up to five adults. Use more for larger gatherings. Satisfactory results depend on the number of people you want to protect and the severity of the local mosquito population. Experiment to find the number of Mosquito 'Cognito dispensers that are right for you.
How long will it take for the system to work?
You should see a difference immediately, if the Mosquito 'Cognito is used according to instructions.
Will all mosquitoes be destroyed?
Mosquito 'Cognitos do not destroy insects. They will hide you and your family from mosquitoes
With what species of mosquitoes is the Mosquito 'Cognito effective?
It is effective against most species of mosquitoes, as well as other biting insects such as sand-flies, jiggers, no-see-ums and midges.
